How to build a minimalist wardrobe while achieving a high-impact look?

When we hear about minimalism, most of us think of empty spaces and white walls. When it comes to fashion, things are always changing. If cardigans are in fashion this week, sweaters might take over next week. Fashion, especially fastfashion, is growing tremendously while increasing global textile wastage.

Especially after the pandemic, people started revenge shopping leading to 18.1% growth in the garment and footwear industry globally. Most people have no control when it comes to buying the hot-selling, discounted, combo products. But not many understand the aftereffects of crazy shopping. This leads to cluttering and hurting their mental health.

People need to understand they can create bold and high-impact looks even with minimal products. This article will walk you through the process in detail. Let us see how to build a minimalist wardrobe while achieving a high-impact look.

How to build a minimalist wardrobe while achieving a high-impact look?

Minimalism is not empty corners or dull walls. Minimalism is having the right amount of product. Instead of crazilycollecting your favorite things, having the right amount of things is what a minimalistic approach is.There is a foundational five-step process that I use in my own home and with all of my clients, says Shira Gill in her book Minimalist.

  1. Clarify- Identify your life goals and visions.
  2. Edit- Remove things that you don't want or need anymore to achieve your dream life.
  3. Organize- Arrange things according to your efficiency, needs, and wants.
  4. Elevate- Utilize your negative space and add more life to it.
  5. Maintain- Hard part but can be achieved with little mindfulness. For every product that comes on, remove the product that you don't want.

The best strategy is to keep your wardrobe only with things you love 100%. We buy items less because it is on a good deal” “We keep unfitting items in the hope that they might fit someday, says Anuschka Rees in The Curated Wardrobe. Isn't it true?

We buy things because of the combo offer. We keep things because it is expensive or someone close to us gifted us years back. We do all these because they are easy and take less mental energy, says Rees. To create a high-impact look, you have to do mental work more than physical work. Come, let us make it less complicated.

How to Clarify?

When it comes to clothing, you should be your own muse, or you can even find your style crush. They don't have to be celebrities or models. They can be your professor one of your girlfriends or that parlor owner.

Visualize how you want to look. Your look is going to play a huge role in projecting confidence and creativity. See what kind of woman you want to see yourself. Now create a style profile. You can choose chic, refined, elegant, simple, edgy, and powerful looks. You can experiment at first and pick one style that makes you feel powerful and elegant deep within.

How to edit?

Editing is the most simple concept in this whole process. But when it comes to practice, it is dreadful and takes you on an emotional roller coaster. Ditch the rules and do what you find the best. Instead of buying everything you like, or a good deal, choose things that only fit you. Choose clothes that only make you feel comfortable and feel elegant.

Subtract all the products that don't fit you anymore. Remove everything that is torn and damaged. And most importantly, detach yourself from gifts you don't need anymore. Just because that unfit cardigan was gifted to you by your ex-boyfriend doesn't mean you still have to keep it.

How to organize?

Before you get the wrong idea, organizing doesn't mean collecting a crazy amount of files or bags or color-codedcontainers. It is about being mindful and intentional. Organism doesn't have to cost you. When you organize everything, you will have an efficient wardrobe that is no longer cluttered with unwanted, unfitting items. You will get clarity, control, and freedom. Organizing has only two steps.

  1. Grouping things according to category
  2. Giving them home.

After editing, you can organize your clothes according to your needs.

  1. Organize for a week. One set of clothes for everyday
  2. Organize the festive and event clothes in a separate place
  3. Color palette your garments
  4. Give separate home for undergarments, shirts, pants, etc.,

How to elevate?

No. In elevation, you are not going to buy more clothes. Instead, you are going to buy things to make the organization process easier. To fill the negative space, remember? Here you are going to purchase hangers, shelf dividers, hooks, garment bags, and drawer dividers. Getting the idea? Perfect.

You can also experiment with creating a curated wardrobe that suits your personality. Include products that are purchased from ethical brands and brands that support sustainability like Rimore. We are working hard to create a better earth to live in by making environmentally friendly clothes that you can flaunt.

How to maintain it?

Whoa, this is the final and most important step. This will help you keep an organized wardrobe every time. You will have to do very little work every day to keep it perfect and away from clutter. See we as a person, going to change now and then. This also means our style and personality might change. So you have to keep working hard to maintain and update your wardrobe. So what can you do to maintain your wardrobe?

  1. Spend 5 to 10 minutes to sanitize your closet
  2. Remove off-season clothes to storage or donate them.
  3. Keep a style for fall, summer, spring, winter, etc.,
  4. Shop only what you need
  5. For every item that comes in, aim to remove one item to give it a space.

Conclusion:

Most people misunderstand that a minimalist wardrobe can't create a high-impact look which is not true. You can easily achieve a bold and polished look while maintaining a minimalist wardrobe. It all has to do with what is your style, yourgoals and objectives, and what you choose to have and have not. Remember, doing wardrobe decluttering is not a one-time thing. You have to do it again and again to keep it fresh and perfect.
